Climate Week Launches and Awards announced

The Climate Week Awards have been announced at a packed ceremony at Lancaster House in the heart of London which AGF were invited too.  The Awards were chosen by a panel which included Tony Juniper, Advisor to the Prince Of Wale’s International Sustainability Unit, The Bishop of London, Lord Gummer, the former UK Secretary of State for the Environment, Tim Smidt, CEO of the Eden Project, Mary Robinson, the former president of Ireland and now a UN Commissioner for Human Rights, Kevin Steele, CEO of Climate Change, Professor Julia Slingo, Chief Scientist at the Met Office and Sir Robert Watson, Chief Scientist at DEFRA and rather a lot of representatives from sponsors including Tesco, H&M, Nissan, EDF and SodaStream. And the lovely fluffy winners are (fanfare)

Best Education Initiative – TURNERS HILL C OF E SCHOOL – School of the future

Best Artistic Response – STEVEN LAKE / WHITE LANTERN FILM – Drying for Freedom

Best Technological Breakthrough (joint winners) – NEXEON for the silicon anode rechargeable battery and the DEPARTMENT FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT for drought resistant maize

Best Product – SEAWATER GREENHOUSE for the Saraha Forest Product turning sun and saltwater into food.

Best Initiative from Government: DEFRA for the UK Climate Risk Assessment

Best Initiative from Public/Uniformed Service – UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON HOSPITALS

Best Local Initiative (joint winners – The NORTH PENNINES PEATLAND PROGRAMME and SHEFFIELD CITY  COUNCIL’S free insulation project

Best Event – LONDON GREEN FAIR

Best Community Initiative – ECOISLAND PARTNERSHIP (Isle of Wight)

Best Campaign – CLOSE THE DOOR campaign and the Sustainable Restaurant Association for TOO GOOD TO WASTE, giving diners doggy boxes to take uneaten food home

Best Initiatives in Business: EIGHT19 and NORTHUMBRIAN WATER

Most Inspirational Young Person – LEAH PARSONS (Girlguiding UK)

Most Inspirational Person – SUE RIDDLESTONE AND POORAN DESAI (BedZED)
