The new edition of the Purple Guide, the UK’s ‘bible’ event safety, has been published. The Guide has been drawn up by the Events Industry Forum in consultation with the UK events industry, including representatives from regional and national Government. This publication is designed to replace the original Purple Guide (HSG195) which was originally published by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in consultation with the industry.
The guide aims to help those who organise music or similar events, so that the events can run safely and to an extent the new guide goes beyond the compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant legislation and covers good practice for health and safety, and other relevant legislation and good practice across the industry including the Licensing Act 2003 are included. The new Guide has been designed to sign-post event organisers and suppliers to the practices and issues that need to be considered when events are being organised. The contents are not designed to be prescriptive and those using the Guide should undertake appropriate risk assessments and evaluations to evaluate the specific requirements of the specific events they are organising or involved with
The new draft, which covers a wide range of events, can be found on-line at www.thepurpleguide.co.uk. There is a subscription of £25 for 12 months access to the Purple Guide website, including all updates and additional guidance that may be added during that period. All funds raised through subscriptions will be used solely for funding the work of the EIF and particularly the costs of maintaining and extending the Purple Guide. EIF is not run for commercial profit.
